What Is An Elder?

Let the elders who rule well be considered worthy of double honor...

What is an Elder? Paul answers that question and several others as he details for Timothy how he, a young shepherd (i.e. pastor), should tend to the church body in Ephesus.
I’m old now but wasn’t 40 years ago. I recall as a young believer thinking the church leaders should do this or that about something with little to no understanding about what the Bible had to say about matters. My opinions at the time were based on what I learned growing up, or school, or from the culture around me. Sound familiar?
I know now that when it comes to how God deals with things, it can differ greatly from culture. He, God that is, has provided all we need to know about how the church should interact with unbelievers (love your neighbor) and His church.
If only we would be obedient to His simple handbook!
Pray for our Elders and staff. We are just sinners saved by grace, just like you. Make time to read His handbook daily and pray as you learn how to live life based on His will and strive to serve Him joyfully.
You will be rewarded if you are willing and disciplined enough to spend time with your God every day in His word and prayer. Jesus modeled this, Paul knew it and shared it with Timothy. I understand this now and share it with you.  What will you do now that I’ve shared it with you?
