Seeing Jesus No Matter What
Would anyone miss you if you suddenly disappeared from the Grace community?
Many people have commented to me over the years in every church I've served: "I quit coming to church, and no one ever reached out." Their comments are intended to suggest that no one in the church community cares about them. But it is actually more of an indictment of their lack of influence and service. You see, people who are building into the life of others will be greatly missed if they suddenly disappear.
Paul writes in verse 25 that he is convinced he will be released from jail. Although he notes that being executed would be "gain," he is excited to continue ministering to others for their "progress and joy in the faith" (verse 25).
If you love others and invest in their spiritual life, they would immediately notice if you suddenly disappeared! Their life would be lacking joy.
Paul was working hard to see Christ formed in believers. Are you? Or are you more of a spectator, expecting others to serve you? As Christ is formed in you, you will be more like Him. And Jesus "came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many" (Matthew 20:28).
It's all about Jesus,
