Text: Mark 14:37-42
"Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
Jesus told the disciples on multiple occasions what lay ahead for Himself. But the disciples did not understand their own weakness, they did not grasp their need to rely on Jesus and not their own strength for the trial ahead. They were blind to the power of their fallenness, of their flesh, to overpower their commitment to Jesus.
When we honestly assess the weakness of our flesh and contemplate how rarely our execution matches our intentions, we would be moved to watch and pray!
Watching and praying should be a lifestyle! Even when we find ourselves most eager to do good, we must pray that our flesh will not get in our way and attempt to steal God's glory or derail our efforts.
- Pray right now and ask God to show you practical ministries to love and impact others for God's Kingdom during this crisis.
- Commit these intentions to God and seek the strength Jesus provides.
- Ask God to reveal to you where your good intentions usually fall victim to the desires of your flesh.
- Humble yourself and confess these tendencies to Him.
- Take action! Do something! And while you do it, stay in touch with God. That is where faithfulness is grounded.
