Text: Jude 1:5-11
Jude begins this section by writing, "Now I want to remind you, although you once fully knew it..." We can fully know something and yet forget to apply the truth in our daily life. We get caught up in the things of this world and are prone to forget, to neglect the lessons and truths from the past. Using these six Old Testament stories, Jude reminds his readers of truths they know but need to be reminded of to expose the false teachers in their midst:
- The Israelites who were delivered from Egypt failed to enter the promised land because of unbelief.
- Fallen angels who rebelled against God.
- Sodom and Gomorrah and sins of sexual immorality.
- The first murderer Cain and his unloving heart.
- Balaam and the sin of deception for personal gain.
- Korah and organizing a rebellion against God's leader.
We don’t know exactly how these false teachers were operating, but these Old Testament references clearly show their attitudes, demeanors, lifestyles, and tactics. Not much has changed from the first century to the twenty-first century.
We must stay in the Word and remind each other daily of the Gospel truths we have received. We can not allow false teachers to use Satanic tactics to deceive our church and our children.
As I mentioned in the sermon, one of the greatest threats in our day is the attempt to manipulate God's Word to say it condones the sin of homosexuality. Below are the two links I included yesterday in the Church App. One is a 10-minute look at every Scripture that directly references homosexuality. The other is an article exposing the hermeneutical gymnastics used when false teachers attempt to justify the sin of homosexuality using God's Word.

I pray you will take the time and effort to read and study so you can "always be prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect" (1 Peter 3:15). "For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline" (2 Timothy 1:7).
