Text: Philippians 4:1-9
God never intended for any of us to live the Christian life alone. When we take our eyes off Jesus, it's natural for us to want to pull away from Christian community. In the flesh, we don't have time to serve others. We feel we don't have the bandwidth to handle our own stuff, much less the burdens and cares of others.
When we begin to think and feel this way, it is helpful to remember Galatians 6:2, "Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." The law of Christ is to love God with all of our being and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. The Holy Spirit motivates and empowers this love for others. John reminds us, "This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins" (1 John 4:10) and "We love because he first loved us" (1 John 4:19).
God’s love is not a passive love. And in that same way, God’s love does not act passively in us. It drives us, it transforms, and it changes us. It drives us to love one another and to care for our brothers and sisters in Christ.
The best way we've found to accomplish this at Grace is through Kgroups. But you have to choose to engage in a group. And don't just be satisfied in attending--be the church!
