How to Keep Going in Ministry
So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. 2 Corinthians 4:16
Paul says, "So we do not lose heart." We would say it this way: "We never give up!"
Ministry for Paul nearly cost him his life on multiple occasions. But he never gave up! But everything Paul went through took its toll on his body; however, he notes that his "inner self" kept getting stronger and stronger.
The “inner self” is another way of describing the spiritual aspect of a person. How could Paul's spiritual life get stronger as his body fell apart? Paul answers this question in chapter 5:14. He says Christ's love compels him! Pause and read verses 14-15 right now.
- Ministers must love Scripture and prize it as their ultimate and final authority.
- Faith in and focus on the resurrection gives us endurance in ministry.
- God’s glory motivated Paul to keep on in ministry.
- Paul’s focus on his glorious future with Jesus empowered him to endure any trouble.
As you spend time with Jesus this week, consider praying over these four items. Ask God to supply you with strength to minister for His glory.
