Desertion, Defection, or Devotion?

After this many of his disciples turned back and no longer walked with him.
Text: John 6:59-71
Scripture teaches only those who stand firm in their faith until the end will be saved.

You can walk in religion without walking with Jesus
Satan is working to entice you to walk away from Jesus. While you may be too heavily invested in the faith community or unwilling to deal with potential disruptions with your friends or in your family to abandon your faith visibly, Satan will be just fine if "walking away" means not taking the words of Jesus seriously.

Jesus told the Pharisees, "You like to appear righteous in public, but God knows your heart" (Luke 16:15 NLT). Jesus is not a liar. Belief in His words gives eternal life! Peter acknowledged in verse 68: "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life."

Please spend time pondering the head and heart application of yesterday's message:
  • Acknowledge to God and to yourself--You are not too strong or too mature to fall. We all have fickle hearts, and none of us are above abandoning our faith.
  • Preach the gospel to yourself until your heart sings. Our assurance of salvation is based on the perfect and complete salvation God has provided for us through Jesus! Keep your eyes on Him.
Take action and apply the "hands" application by fighting for faith together in community!

Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 3:12-13

HERE is a good resource for those who feel their heart is hard to the words of Jesus.
