If you're not getting sanctification, you don't have saving faith. -Tim Keller*

Text: John 15:9-16
If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love (verse 10).

Sanctification (fruit) is proof that your salvation is real. God is committed to His children's obedience (fruit) because we are His ambassadors in this world doing His work through the indwelling power of the Holy Spirit. And God is committed to His will for His glory.

  • Romans 10:14: How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?
  • Don't think that "preaching" is only something for "preachers." This word means to proclaim.
  • "Preaching" is the work of every Christian--including you!

It's is critical to remember that our obedience (fruit) doesn't earn God's love. But our obedience (fruit) is evidence of the love that He has placed inside of every one of His children.

So yes, focus on obedience. Make every effort to obey God! But keep your eyes on Jesus, otherwise, you will be burdened and bored rather than happy (verse 11) and spontaneous.

Pause right now and pray to your friend, King Jesus. Ask Him to help you fulfill His will and live boldly and courageous today for the gospel. Keep in mind, whatever you ask in Jesus name (His will for His glory), He will give it to you (verse 16)!
