Are we really willing?
Text: Philippians 1:12-18
Acts 10:42 He commanded us to preach to the people and to solemnly testify that He is the One appointed by God to be the Judge of the living and the dead.
In Acts Chapter 10, Peter had his world changed. God ordered him to meet with Cornelius, a Gentile, and share the Gospel, the Good News, about Jesus. The story is fascinating and short, well worth your time to read or re-read if it’s been a while. Peter didn’t want anything to do with it initially. Scripture says he was “deeply perplexed”.
Perhaps that would be an apt way to describe how you feel about sharing the Gospel, deeply perplexed. But God commanded Peter to preach Jesus, to share Jesus with a person who had zero in common with him. Isn’t that just like God? Paul is in prison and yet his main priority, his joy came from sharing the Gospel.
Speaking for myself, I wasted the first couple decades of my faith walk thinking sharing the Gospel was what those “officially” in ministry did: Pastors, Elders, Deacons… not me. I was supposed be live a respectable life, love my wife, pay my taxes, faithfully support the local church, etc.
While those may be commendable, they certainly aren’t all there is to the Christian life.
In fact, the case can be made that if that’s all we’re doing after we’re saved, we’re missing out on the best God has for us. Peter, Paul and every N.T. writer tirelessly devoted themselves to the advancement of the Gospel. If they did, shouldn’t we?
To do that, you need to A) Know the Gospel B) Believe it and C) Be willing to share it… Every day.
Spend some time this week on the Head, Heart, Hands from yesterday. Think about how you would share the Gospel… in your own words*. From the heart. People can spot a phony instantly. Get comfortable with whatever aspect of the Gospel that means the most to you and go from there. The heavy lifting is done by the Holy Spirit. Your part is sharing. The Holy Spirit does the rest.

May not seem like it at times (prison anyone?), but there’s joy to be had prioritizing our Kingdom opportunities. I know I say this a lot, but it’s true… You will be rewarded for your effort. Are you willing?
Be blessed!
