Repeat What's Important!

Text: John 16:25-33

James Smith writes, "What do you want?" He continues, "That's the question. It is the first, last, and most fundamental question of Christian discipleship."

During the farewell discourse from the upper room, Judas leaves to follow his true love. He abandons Jesus for his love of money.

Jesus tells the eleven they will soon abandon Him, too (verse 32). But unlike Judas, they truly love Jesus. They want to be with Jesus. They desire Him above all ease. Their temporary failure doesn't define them.

What about you? What do you want? Even if you currently are not abiding with Jesus as you once did, He is using your failures for His glory and your good. But you are not passive in this process. Allow your love and desire for Jesus to move you to repeat what's important. Ask God to "curate your heart" by being attentive and intentional in the habits and behaviors that cultivate a greater love for Jesus.

In the "hands" application yesterday, I asked you to choose to be attentive and intentional in ONE of the four sermon points:

  1. Read the Word of God in tandem with the Spirit of God.
  2. Begin praying in the name of Jesus.
  3. Admit to God the weakness of your flesh and seek God’s grace.
  4. Preach the gospel to yourself. Jesus has overcome the world, and peace is available because He lives!
