Text: Mark 13:24-37
"It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his servants in charge, each with their work.…" Mark 13:34

Close your eyes and imagine for a moment you are there in the crowd when Jesus spoke the words recorded in Mark 13. There used to be thousands of you listening to and following Jesus everywhere he went. Now, there are fewer than a thousand. Jesus is hours from Calvary and He shares some pretty amazing things that will happen in the future. Very amazing things.

Again, imagine you are there, and the very last illustration Jesus ever shares reinforces illustrations He’s used before. A man goes on a journey, leaving behind His servants, each with their work. What work?

Paul helps us there. Ephesians 2:10 reads “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them."

Jesus wasn’t just any man leaving on a journey. He was God Himself. And He didn’t leave on a whim. This journey was planned from before time began. And He didn’t leave without instructions. He left His servants in charge, each with their own work to do. Work that He, Himself prepared for each of them, individually.

Yes, there’s no denying Jesus told His disciples some amazing things. One of the truly most amazing things He said was that He was leaving His servants in charge with work to do.

Are you loving your neighbor? Do you even know your neighbor? If not, there’s a good place to start.
