Walk By Faith Not By Fear
Yet for fear of the Jews no one spoke openly of him.
Text: John 7:1-13
The condition of your submission is best revealed by the contents in your mind.
Please take time to reflect on these sermon discussion questions. God requires us to seek Him to find Him, and to do so with all our hearts. He is not far from any one of us (Acts 17:27).
- Why do Jesus’s half-siblings want him to go to Jerusalem?
- How is it possible for someone to know a lot of information about Jesus or Scripture and still not have saving faith?
- Do you ever bargain with God in the same way Jesus’s siblings do, asking him to show himself as God in order to get something you want?
- Why do the religious leaders hate Jesus and want to kill him?
- In the sermon it was said, “When something unexpected happens or life takes a turn for the worse, more than likely you will ponder these questions in your mind: "God, do you care?”
- and “God, are you in control?” How can we grow in faith in God’s love and sovereignty?
- How does the fear of people reveal itself in your life?
- Discuss the quote from Ed Welch: “Our problem is that we need people (for ourselves) more than we love them (for the glory of God). The task God sets for us is to need them less and love them more.”
- Why does Jesus expose sin? (verse 7)?
- How can the way we deal with sin either distort or clarify the gospel?
- Do you agree that your greatest problem is your sin? What attitudes or actions in your life suggest that maybe you don’t truly believe that?
