People Matter…
There’s a tired old expression in ministry circles that goes something like this… Ministry is great if it weren’t for the people.
We concluded our study of 2 Timothy with this simple reminder: People matter. They mattered to Paul but they matter more to God.
Grace Church has no ministry without people. You, me and the 15 others we like and look forward to spending time worshipping God and living life together. This passage also reminds us that God sent His son, not just to start a new religion, or so we could get what we want out of this life. He sent Jesus to redeem us for His glory.
It’s much easier to ignore the Demas’s and Alexander’s of this life by characterizing them as disappointing, or dangerous. A threat to the church. However, that conveniently ignores the fact that we were all “outside” the church at some point in our lives. In every case, it’s merely a matter of degree. ALL have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Rom 3:23). We may have been attending church, perhaps from time to time, but never having surrendered our lives to Jesus.
We concluded our study with a question regarding the Demas’s and Alexander’s in your life. Does God want to use you to introduce them to Jesus? To take that risk. Someone did for you. If not you, who?
Also. Remember those who gave their lives for the freedom we have as Americans. Freedom is never free. It’s important to remember that.
