The Judgment Seat of Christ
For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ... 2 Corinthians 5:10

Is serving Jesus for eternal rewards selfish?
This is a great question, and I would direct you to "Ask Pastor John (Piper, not Woodrum). Piper gives a very thoughtful, thorough, and Biblical answer to this question. The highlight of his response is this statement: "There is nothing morally inferior about looking for reward for our behavior, provided that the reward is ultimately more of Christ as the supreme joy of our souls. And the reason that is not morally inferior is that Christ is most glorified in us when we are most satisfied in Christ."

My challenge today, as you desire to live Sunday on Monday and throughout this week, is to ponder the head, heart, and hands application (below) from the sermon. Listen to the Piper podcast, read the Scriptures associated with rewards, and consider the following questions:

  • Read 2 Timothy 2:15 and Ephesians 2:8-9. Since we are saved by grace and not by works, what is the purpose of the judgment seat of Christ?
  • How do you live in grace but at the same time do “your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed” (2 Tim.2:15)?
  • If Christians are not judged for sin at the judgment seat of Christ, does it mean we can live in any way we please? Read and study Romans 6:1-4. How does Paul answer this question?
