Too Terrifying a Reality to Fully Believe

“No one ever spoke like this man!”
Text: John 7:40-46

They knew the Scripture, but they did not take the time to know Jesus.

Rather than a blog this week, take some time to answer the following questions from the sermon and Biblical text.

  1. Who did some people think Jesus was – 7:40,41? (Think: Where else have similar questions be raised?)
  2. Why did some reject Jesus as Christ? What facts were they missing – 7:42?
  3. What condition existed among the crowd because of Jesus? What can we learn – 7:43?
  4. What did some want to do to Him, and what was the result – 7:44?
  5. What reasons did the officers give why they did not capture Jesus – 7:45,46? (Think: What does this tell us about Jesus’ teaching?)
  6. The people of Jesus’ day knew the Scripture, but they did not take the time to know Jesus. Practically, how can we do this today?
  7. What would change if we fully believed truths like Romans 12:1: I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.
  8. What do you think about Charles Surgeon’s quote: “We are immortal until our work is done.”
  9. Read the Eugene Peterson quote and discuss the “Hands” application: “Jesus doesn't tell us to go out into the world and conquer it; he calls us into a yoked companionship with himself. He doesn't ask us to do anything that he doesn't promise to do with us. We are not so much sent out as invited along.”
  • The HANDS: Make a list of ways you can better serve and glorify God in your present circumstances.

It's All About Jesus,
John
