Let God Be God (Part 2)
Jesus said, "... whoever comes to me I will never cast out."
Text: John 6:35-51
See God’s sovereignty. Embrace it and rejoice in the fact that God has control of the universe, reigns over all evil, and navigates the course of our lives. Stand on these truth with the joy of faith. But don’t stop there.
Sadly, many Christians seem to stop short when they think they have achieved an intellectual grasp of theology and a greater knowledge of the Bible. But it's helpful to remember that Satan understands God's power better than any of us (see James 2:19 and the book of Job). So just knowing facts and truth about God isn't enough. We must keep going...
In 1 John 4:2, the Apostle John writes, "By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God." In Jesus, God became flesh. The Great I Am took on flesh and became a man. The Jews could not accept this truth, so they grumbled and rejected Jesus.
Of course, John's statement here in 1 John 4:2 is true, but it is not presented in Scripture as the only test for spiritual truth. Paul speaks in 1 Corinthians about the necessity of believing in Jesus' literal, bodily resurrection. He is the perfect and complete sacrifice for sin. He took God's righteous wrath against sin so we, although guilty, did not have to be punished. God has provided for us eternal life through Jesus Christ!
That's why we say, "It's all about Jesus!"
As I pointed out a few weeks ago in the sermon, Matthew's account of the events in John 6 includes the disciples worshiping Jesus for the first time: "Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, 'Truly You are the Son of God'” (Matthew 14:33).
Worship is simply about value. The simplest definition is this: Worship is our response to what we value most. Worship determines our actions, becoming the driving force for all we do. Louie Giglio writes, "So how do you know where and what you worship? It’s easy. You simply follow the trail of your time, your affection, your energy, your money, and your loyalty. At the end of that trail you’ll find a throne; and whatever, or whomever, is on that throne is what’s of highest value to you. On that throne is what you worship."
- Think about your life and truly follow the trail. Consider journaling the trails of your life.
- Who or what is on the throne?
- Ask God to remind you that you are a starving beggar in need of the Bread of Life!
- Stop grumbling and, in gratitude, sit at His feet!
