Helping each other know & follow Jesus in our home, city, and world.

Text: Colossians 3:18-4:1

We can use the Bible for information instead of transformation.  We can have a lot of knowledge but do very little.
As Christ followers, we follow in the footsteps of Jesus.  Jesus knew the Word.  And he applied the Word.  Think about his temptation in the wilderness (Luke 4:1-13).  He applied specific verses of God's Word to each specific temptation He faced.

Excuses We Make
So what excuses do you give yourself for not doing the Word?
  • "I'm good enough"
  • "It's too hard."
  • "I'm too busy."
  • "I need to know more."
Each of these excuses is rooted in a lack of faith.  What drives the Christian life is the great joy set before us (Hebrews 12:2), causing us to press on.  Paul says in Philippians that he is throwing off all excuses in his pursuit of Jesus. He desired to know Jesus as much as humanly possible on this earth, keeping his eyes on eternity, where he will see Jesus face to face   (Philippians 3:8-14).

Jesus must be the delight of our hearts!

Whatever It Takes
Ask God now to give you the desire to desire Jesus.  And be persistent. Don't lose heart!  If you are truly saved, the Holy Spirit lives in you.  He knows you are weak.  He knows you struggle.  He will pray FOR YOU if you allow Him to do so (Romans 8:26-27)!

Real Change at Home is Possible
If your marriage and family life is struggling, it can be even more challenging to find your delight in Jesus.  Yesterday we talked about submission and agape love in marriage.  God can help you break the crazy cycle.  You can't "fix" your spouse, but with the help of the Holy Spirit you can change your reaction.
